August 2009 Inshore Saltwater FishingCaptain Keith Powell's Fish On Charters Inshore Fishing on Mobile Bay for Bull Redfish Report

By Captain Keith Powell, Fish On Charters  8/3/09

Fellow fishing enthusiasts, here's what's on the horizon for inshore fishing for the Mobile Bay, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, Alabama fishery.  The month of August sends our inshore species into deep water patterns. The water temp varies with tidal flow, wind direction, and rainfall usually between 82 and 92 degrees. The heat sends fish searching for deeper, cooler water. Speckled trout, Redfish, Flounder, and other varieties of fish can be caught this time of year.

Mobile Bay Speckled Trout Fishing with Capt Keith PowellSix hour charters to Mobile Bay are the most productive this month.. Early morning or late evening, Speckled Trout will be found in shallower water. This is a wonderful opportunity for topwater action. Artificial baits such as the Zara Spook and the Mirrolure Top Pup imitate mullet on the water's surface and trigger aggressive strikes that will make your knees go weak.   As the sun rises and the temperature follows, fish will move into deeper parts of the Mobile Bay with structure, such as Middle Bay Lighthouse, the oil rigs, and gas platforms.

Drifting live bait works well in these deep water, mid morning scenarios. Also on a six hour charter, Tripletail are ready available. This has been an outstanding year for Tripletail fishing in Mobile Bay. These fish not only give you all you want on light tackle, they are one of the most delicious pieces of meat you will ever encounter.

Large Bullreds (Redfish, Red Drum) are making a late summer run around Dixie Bar at Fortalabama inshore fishing for tripletail fish near mobile bay Morgan also this month.  Catching and releasing a few 15 to 25 pound redfish isn't a bad way to wrap up a great morning of trout fishing. Or maybe, you would like to catch and release these monster redfish for the entire trip. I always enjoy watching a good ole trip to the woodshed (that would be you courtesy of Mr. Bullred). Light tackle fishing for Dixie Bar Redfish is something you will never forget. There is plenty of opportunity for fishing adventure along the inshore, back bay waters of Alabama this month. Flounder gigging is available upon request.
