Family Deep Sea Fishing for Amberjack in Gulf Shores during May 2011

These big fish are called Sea Donkey's by the local fishermen because they kick like a mule when hooked. You get a fight that will create a memory that will last a lifetime. Gulf Shores Deep Sea Fishing Charters takes kids and families offshore to the reefs where these magnificent creatures live and allows your kids to hook one and hang on.

Today's fishing charter started out like any other. We had our safety meeting and briefing and departed on time. We rode through Moron Straits, Underneath the Alabama Point Bridge and past the jetties toward the Gulf of Mexico.  This young man is a baseball player and he was ready to see if he could handle the fight of a nice Amberjack.

We rode offshore to the artificial reefs and we began jigging for big Amberjacks. It did not take long before he was hooked up on this nice Amberjack and the fight was on. After a brief battle, this young man and the Amberjack were worn out and Kenny reached over the boat and put a BOGA Grip holder in the fishes mouth and pulled him out of the water.

This Amberjack was just shy of being legal by about 2 inches. Amberjack have to be 30 inches fork length from the nose to the fork of the tail in order to keep them. Since this family did not want to keep any fish anyway, it made sense to release this fish and the other ones we caught.

If you want to have some fun this summer, Amberjacks provide a great fight for kids and even the most experienced angler. The season will be open for harvest until the end of May 2011 and will close during the months of June and July. It will reopen on August 1, 2011. These fish can be caught and released all summer long. We look forward to seeing your family fight one this summer.
