Brian Belzer from Baton Rouge, Louisiana is more than a regular guest. He has become family. The neat thing about fishing is it brings people together and allows them to grow their friendship every time they are together. Brian loves to go fish for Big Fish. Almost every time we get together, the fish bite like crazy for us.
On this Charter, Brian brought his neighbor, Jervey Cheveallier and his customer, David Lindsey and Justin Lindsey with him. This was a corporate trip. Most of the time, Brian brings family and friends. Brian shows thanks to his customers by taking them on a corporate fishing charter. This is how it is supposed to be.
We headed out to sea this morning and picked up a Bonita trolling out. We did not stop until we got over 30 miles offshore. 12 hour trips are better when you get down the road early and fish deeper water that has not been fished in a long time.
The bite was on fire. We caught a huge Red Grouper that gave Jervey a fight for his life.
The Trigger fish, Almaco Jacks, Gag Grouper, Scamp Grouper and Amberjack bit great. We also unintentionally caught Red Snapper. We jigged for a while and Brian had a blast hooking and fighting Ambjerjacks. We even had a chance to catch and release 4 jacks that would have been legal last year. They were all 28 to 28 1/2 inches.
The bite died down about lunch time and we struggled to get a bite for the next three hours. I guess the heat of the day made the fish stop feeding.
The interesting thing was when we started heading in, we were on top, cruising when our high speed troller went off. It was screaming. We could not get it to stop. We thought it was going to be our first Wahoo of the year. To our amazement, 20 minutes later, we got a nice Yellowfin tuna up to the boat. It was pretty awesome.
