Doug Busters Deep Sea Fishing Charter in Gulf Shoreslight tackle fishing with Doug

Doug had originally booked his 6 hour fishing charter for Sunday, April 26th.  As you would have guessed it, the spring weather was horrible the whole week.  We finally got some good sea conditions to get out and go fishing on Friday, May 1.  Doug had some of his friends down with him earlier in the week but had to return home and missed our fishing trip.

Deep sea fishing in the spring in Orange Beach, Alabama can be frustrating for anglers.  Most of the fishing in the spring charter season is subject to waiting on a mild cold front to pass every three or four days.  These days before the front arrives, we normally see southeast winds at 20 knots which caused 4 to 6 foot seas.  When we saw the break in the forecast on Friday.  Doug and saw the opportunity to to go and we are glad we did.  The seas were 3 feet and were confirmed by our Gulf Shores Marine Weather Report on our website.

Dougs red snapperWe headed offshore for a great day fishing.  Doug and his sons were excited about the day ahead.  After an hour and a half ride, we stopped the charter boat and started fishing.  We were trying to catch some Vermilion Snapper and some Red Porgies.  We did hook up a few Red Snapper and took the opportunity to get that special photo.  Doug had a blast fishing with our light tackle.  The dolphins showed up and we decided to move away from them.  They have a tendancy to drive the fish down further in the water column and stop the fish from biting.

We ended up catching some nice fish during Doug's trip.  He ended up hooking a shark on our last reef, which gave him a light tackle fight of a lifetime.  We headed in with a nice mess of fish for supper.

We look forward to Doug's return.
