Fall of the year has arrived on the Alabama Gulf Coast. That's right, a special Red Snapper season is open and your just in time to do some deep sea fishing while your in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach this week. This next week is also the Alabama Gulf Coast Shrimp Festival.
Jacob and Jamey are a couple of young men that live in Baldwin County and took advantage of the October weather and a great deep sea fishing charter on the Distraction. Both of these young men chartered our boat to go out Saturday and try their luck with light tackle saltwater fishing.
We left the Orange Beach Marina this morning and headed through Perdido Pass and out into the Gulf of Mexico. The wind was blowing firmly from the Northeast and the seas were a little choppy. None of the waves were over 3 feet, which makes deep sea fishing comfortable. The much needed relief from the heat of the Summer was welcomed by these two young men. The temparture stayed in the mid 70's most of the morning and the fish bite was phenominal.
We caught a small Cobia but had to realse the beautiful fish. Fighting the Cobia was fun to watch from the wheelhouse. They tend to want to stay on top and run away and around the charter boat. Cobia have to be 33 inches at the fork of the tail, but this one was only 30 inches.
Red Snappers are certainly making a come back on the Alabama artificial reefs that are located just south of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. These two young men caught plenty of those 5 to 10 lb fish but decided to keep only a few for supper. Light Tackle saltwater deep sea fishing was awesome today. There is nothing more beautiful than watching the rod bend all the way over and hearing the drag screaming as the fish runs for cover.
Today was just a phenominal day and the Fall fishing was amazing.
