Cameron Shearer came down for a Spring Break, deep sea fishing charter with his father, Uncle and friend. Cameron wanted to go deep sea fishing south of Gulf Shores. After a brief ride offshore, we stopped on our first fishing reef. We were catching a few Red Snappers but had do release them. We had a Gag Grouper, Red Snapper and a King Mackerel all hooked up and on the surface when this magnificent Cobia swam up behind the charter boat Distraction.
We pitched a live bait out to the Cobia and he would not hook up on the circle hook. After two more attempts, this 53 pounder came alive and gave Cameron a fight of a lifetime. It took a little while for Cameron to get this fish to the surface. When he got him up top, Lem reached over and threw him in the boat.
