Light Tackle Fishing Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, Alabama
Distraction Charters light tackle fishing is located at Zeke's Marina in beautiful Orange Beach, Alabama. We are near Gulf Shores and Perdido Key, Florida. We offer light tackle deep sea fishing charter trips just off the beaches of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Ultra-light tackle such as 6 to 12 lb test will not handle most of those toothy critters we fish for in the saltwater off the shores of Alabama., so we offer 20 to 30 lb test light fishing tackle because it will handle most of those larger fish that are found out deep sea fishing. Vacationers to Orange Beach and Gulf Shores love catching fish with our light tackle rods. Even the kids can handle our gear. Our trips are 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 hours in length. Family light tackle fishing is what we do best, but we also have a lot of serious fishermen who charter our boat for 10 or 12 hours to try and catch some big fish.

Trolling or Reef Fishing All On Light Tackle

Spencer catches a King Mackerel on Light Tackle. June 10, 2008
Trolling is the type or style of saltwater fishing that is best right off the shores of Orange Beach, Alabama. We normally begin redfish fishing also known as bullreds in late October and is really good until the first part of April each year. Jack Crevalles are also very common during this period and give a stronger fight than the redfish. Gulf Shores is usually loaded with bullreds and they can weigh up to 30 to 40 lbs each. The other way (preferred) to fish for them is to troll lures and jigs behind the boat. We usually pull 3 to 4 lures at a time. When we troll or pull the lures through the fish which may not be visible from the surface, they will strike the lure and then you grab the rod and begin your fight of a lifetime. 4 hour trolling trips are really good during the late spring and summer months for catching King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel.
"Light Tackle Trolling Trips Are Fun For The Kids"
Reef fishing is another type of deep sea fishing we do with light tackle. We usually head South out of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores and ride for about an hour or longer to get to the saltwater artificial reefs that we have put out on the bottom of the deep sea. Reef fish such as Red Snapper, Triggerfish, Grouper, Amberjack and Sharks congregate on these reefs. That is why we have good Shark Fishing in the waters off of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. There is so much food for them to eat. Where there is food in the deep sea, there are sharks. We do fish for shark on light tackle. We use 50 to 60 lb test for shark instead of 300 lb test. Our longer trips such as the 10 and 12 hour trips are best because if gives us enough time to fish the deep sea and try and catch you some nice fish. 4 hour trips are light tackle trolling only. 6 hour and 8 hour trips are for light tackle reef fishing and having fun. 10 and 12 hour light tackle reef fishing trips are for the ultimate fishing charter going after the big one and trying to catch a variety of fish. Brian fights a 20 plus pound red snapper on light tackle!
We offer light tackle fishing offshore for Red Snapper, Triggerfish, Amberjack, King Mackerel and Spanish Mackerel. Bass fishing on Steroids is what we call it.
Our Serious customers are sportsmen and enjoy bass and sportfishing. Only meat hunters use heavy line, big rods, bulky reels and thats not what we are about. We listened to our customers and they told us that they wanted to feel the fight and enjoy catching fish instead of being tired of reeling up a 3 lb fish on 50 lb test. BORING... Thats not even a challenge and we don't do it.
Sportsmen enjoy light tackle fishing with us because our trips are about them, their family, Kids, their friends and just having fun catching fish all day. We give sportsmen a chance to "WHACK'EM" and enjoy themselves while they are doing it.
